A life update! And incredible advice I’ve taken lately

It’s been well over a month since I’ve posted and I feel like I’m returning home after a long holiday! My destination: writer’s block with a (not so quick) stop-over in ‘just plain lazy’ land. My poor, poor unnurtured blog! But you know what it’s like. Life is busy. Anyway, hi!!!!!!! How are you?

A quick life catch up…our family grows! We got a new cat!!!!! Well he’s not new, he’s 10. Our cat Stan grew up with him and we’ve recently moved him in from Jack’s parents. He is the neediest cat in the world, adores a cuddle, sneezes a million times a day and licks me in my sleep (Jack’s caught him licking my shoulder in the middle of the night!). Meet Spot!

He loves a Nanna cuddle! Other goings on lately:

  • I somehow pulled off a MEGA hen do for my best pal – hen do planning tips coming soon!
  • I switched from iPhone to Samsung (purely for the camera amazingness)
  • My best pals got married and it was the most perfect day ever!
  • I’ve decided to go pescatarian – more on this soon!

…And now life is business as usual – werk werk werk with an added dose of our own wedding dreaming. Leave me your little life update in the comments! 🙂

Anyway, on to the soul warming stuff because that’s why you’re here right?! I’m currently listening to Oprah’s new book on Audible (sign up for a free trial and download any book of your choice, free!) and it’s absolutely full to the brim with incredible advice/insights to ponder. Of course, I just had to share with you the points that have resonated with me most so far.

“Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses” 

Like honestly, how much of your inner monologue is you focusing on your bad bits? The jobs you haven’t done, the body you don’t have, the ways in which you’ve let yourself down today…Why are we so programmed to focus on the negative? Turn that voice in your head in to a cheerleader! Instead, what are your strengths? What have you achieved today? How great does that shirt look on you? Celebrate yourself!

“People may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel”

This was a powerful reminder for me to make a conscious effort to bring a kind, caring and uplifting energy to those around me whenever possible. It also reminded me that my own worries and insecurities about my body and my appearance are so insignificant to others – in a week’s time, you won’t be remembered for how skinny you looked at the party but you’ll certainly be remembered for how fun and interesting you were!

“The more importance an activity is to your soul’s evolution, the more resistance you will feel to it”

I feel like this is super relevant for me at the moment because I have been resisting writing this blog for a while now and resistance is the product of fear. For me, it was fear that my posts weren’t doing very well, fear I was wasting my time and fear that I was baring my soul on the internet with no purpose. But I love to write! Writing clears my mind, lifts my worries and inspires me to look at life through positive eyes. Why would I fear something that encourages such positive things?

We need to push past our fears and take note of any resistance that arises. When it does, remember that resistance is a sign that the thing we are resisting is important. Sitting in our comfort zone is exactly that, comfortable. There’s no resistance in comfort – but there’s also no growth either. Moving through fear takes us to new places and presents us with new opportunities!

“You are in charge of the energy you bring to the world”

Kindness is contagious. Happiness is contagious. Laughter is contagious. Embody whatever it is you want to see more of in your life and encourage it to spread! Imagine that you leave a trail of energy wherever you go, soaking those around you in a particular mood or feeling. Spread love, spread joy, spread whatever it is that you want to spread – just be conscious of the energy you are putting out in to the world.

I really recommend listening to the book and I haven’t even finished it yet. If you need a little help rekindling your flame, this is for you.
